Vegan Entrepreneur

So each month we are going to try to feature a local vegan entrepreneur. This month we are featuring Ideal Design, owned by Kristen Argenio. Here is a little more about them…

I am a graphic designer who specializes in eco-friendly print design, and I’ve been a vegan since 1997. For many years, I worked at major design firms throughout the DC area. The work was fun, but I’d always wanted to have more control over the clients I worked for. Animal rights and environmentalism have been important to me since childhood, and my ultimate goal was to have my career focused specifically on the causes that meant most to me.

So, in 2006, I founded Ideal Design with the caveat that all my work be for non-profits or businesses that I personally support. One of my first clients was Java Green (a no-brainer!), and I’m proud to now work with a number of other vegan-run businesses and non-profits. This means that not only do I love what I do, I’m also personally invested in all my clients’ success.

I started Ideal Design to offer something different: a graphic design firm that practices what its clients preach.

We work exclusively for socially-responsible organizations–the people who are trying to change the world, one wildlife program or vote or vegan sandwich at a time. We keep our overhead low, don’t do hidden markups, and try to keep our footprint as small as possible. Ideal Design is a Co-op America certified green business and is committed to social responsibility.

This Weekends Events

Here is a rundown of whats happening this weekend. [pretty much just TAFA] know of something else going on let me know tim@dcvegan.com

Taking Action For Animals > July 19th - 21st

So much has happened for animal protection in the last year, and it’s time to gather together to push the cause forward. After the Michael Vick case exposed the world to illegal dogfighting, learn what you can do to combat animal fighting in your community. After the slaughter of sick and crippled cows led to the largest recall of meat in our nation’s history, learn what you can do to protect farm animals from cruelty and abuse. As the November election approaches, learn about animal issues that will be on the ballot and how you can pass laws to protect animals.

During the conference you can network with national leaders and hundreds of grassroots activists. The conference’s convenient location allows easy access to the entire DC area.

Veggie Hot Dog Eating Contest

That’s right a veggie hot dog eating contest, time for use veggies to gorge our faces till we puke! Sticky Finger Bakery will hosting the first ever veggie hot dog eating contest with Compassion Over Killing. This is a kick off to celebrate National Veggie Hot Dog Month (didnt even know there was one) and will be held on July 26th at 6pm.

We’re BACK!

Well I giving DC Vegan another shot. I hope to keep posts going on a regular basis and I will except articals and such from our readers if you have something you would like to share.

To tell you a little bit about myself, my name is Tim Meinberg I have been vegan for around 3 years now. I work in IT doing all kinds of stuff from networking to graphic design. I have lived in the DC area my whole life, I love it and hate it here, but I am not going to get into that. I love my bicycles too, I worked in the bike industry for several years before I got into IT, did a some racing too, mostly cyclocross. I hope to provide you readers with some good reading, articles, ramblings, reviews, and the such. I am not the best writer in the world, and I hated English class, so I am sure there will be type-o’s (is that right???) and long sentences, so don’t hate me!

Send your love to keep me going!

Peace
