happy 2009 to all!

Local Vegan Store Does a Body Good!

So I’m sure that in all of your many (or not so many) years of veganism that you’ve at least once stumbled upon the vegan store that is Pangea (www.veganstore.com).  But did you realize that it’s in our very own backyard?  (Well, if you’re willing to cross the hazard that is the beltway and make it all the way to Rockville, Maryland, it is.)  And if you’ve ever been known to re-use a tea bag to save money or to lug 5 bags back from Whole Paycheck on your bicycle to help save the world, then saving on shipping costs, fuel, and packaging might just be right up your alley.

So, back to the garden of eden that is Pangea.  Easy to get to, right off I-270 in Rockville, The Vegan Store is a small storefront for what is a bustling online business.  It’s pretty darn comforting, though, to be able to pick up anything in the store and toss it willy-nilly into your bag without (gasp!) pouring over the ingredients looking for hidden casein or whey.  Is that some cake mix I spy over there.  Ah yeah.  Nut cheese anyone?  They’ve got that too–though it’s kept in the refrigerator section in the back, ask for it.  They were out of my frozen cookie dough so I’ll have to make another trip back, but it will be a pleasure.  It’s open only on weekends but they’ve even got the vegan New Balance running shoes that I like so I’ll suffer through the strip-mall traffic to get to their brick-and-mortar store.  Plus, you get to chat with the helpful and uber-friendly staff, try on shoes to make sure they fit, and pick up some boxed truffles that you might otherwise convince yourself weren’t on your diet and thus deprive yourself of true love and joy.

And isn’t veganism all about love and joy and peace in the world?  Yeah.  Don’t forget the truffles.

It gets even greener than that! You forgot to mention that they’re about a block off the Twinbrook stop on the red line– reduce your footprint even more, take the metro!

Seriously, the smoked cheddar Shreese is worth the trip alone. Mmmm!
