your best vegan holiday recipe & story

With the holidays just around the corner its about time to break out that recipe(s) that you only make once a year. Weather its to make a wonderful vegan meal for your family or to take to your relatives house so you have at least one thing to eat.

That reminds me of last year, we decided to not attend the usual family feasting. We made a wonderful vegan dinner and invited everyone to come to our place. I would have to say that it turned out better then expected. Some of our family showed up and ate our vegan food. To their surprise, they loved it! (No surprise to me I knew it was going to be good!) But those are the only people that showed.  This year I think we are going to do things a little different because of our new little one, but I know our parents will make us some good vegan food.

But anywho…lets hear some of those favoriate recipes, and if you have a good holiday story lets hear that too.

I’ve only been vegan since January - New Year’s Day was my first day as a vegan! It wasn’t a New Year’s resolution or anything, that’s just the day it clicked in my head. I went with some family and friends to Busboys and Poets for the first time. It’s now one of my favorite places, they have so many great vegan dishes! Plus vegan brunch options on the weekends. My friends teased me a bit about my scrambled tofu, but I thought it was great and never looked back.

As for recipes, I made a fancy shmancy Valentine’s day dinner that my (omni) boyfriend really loved. Chickpea cutlets with red wine roux from Veganomicon, roasted broccoli, and cous cous tossed with almonds and raisins. For desert, this great pie from Fat Free Vegan Kitchen - http://blog.fatfreevegan.com/2006/05/chocolate-lorange-mousse-pie.html. I love that it’s almost entirely tofu but no one would ever guess! This thanksgiving I plan to make the pumpkin variation.
